Chapped or cracked skin is the result of the depletion of natural oils (sebum) in the skin, leading to dehydration of the skin beneath it. Some common causes for chapped skin include exposure to the cold or wind, repeated contact
with soap or chemicals that break down oils, or a lack of essential fatty acids in the body.
